Monster fighting superhero

It has been eight years and 400 episodes, and so without soccer to talk about, Filibuster takes a look around and a look back. Jason, Adam, and Ben mention the very brief amount of soccer news that there is, and then talk about goats, cooking, children, and look back at these 400 episodes.

We also thank our listeners for sticking with us for 400 episodes, and into the future. We love you all, thank you all, and hope to see you around for the next 400 episodes; we'll be back next week with another exciting guest. Give it a listen!

Thank you for listening to Filibuster! Interview with Paul Arriola

Filibuster is back for these pandemic times, even if there isn't really any soccer news to talk about. Jason, Adam, and Ben spend the first segment talking about things like FIFA 98: Road to the World Cup and the wild worldwide simulation that Jason created involving meticulous notebooking and Swaziland.

In the second segment, we welcome Paul Arriola to the podcast! We ask him about how he's staying sane, whether digital Bill Hamid is as good as real life Bill Hamid, how the team is staying close, and any new skills he's learning. We also ask him about the potential about Liga MX and MLS merging, and you'll want to hear why Arriola is against it. Give it a listen!

Interview with Aubrey Bledsoe

Filibuster is back again to your ears, even as soccer remains sidelined. Jason, Adam, and Ben talk about Chris Durkin's likely transfer to Sint-Truiden and the possibility of a merger or super-league between MLS and Liga MX. In the second segment, we welcome Washington Spirit goalkeeper Aubrey Bledsoe on to talk about food, pranks, and being a soccer player in these strange times. Give it a listen!

Uncommentary: Washington Warthogs vs. Pittsburgh Stingers

In the past, we have brought you uncommentaries of the 1996 MLS Cup and the 2004 Eastern Conference Final. Today, Jason, Adam, and Ben bring you a much different uncommentary, with a 1994 match between the Washington Warthogs and the Pittsburgh Stingers stepping into the spotlight. This is the soccer that was available in the United States right after the 1994 World Cup, and indoor soccer was a wild ride.

You can watch the game with us at https://youtu.be/yUUtDqQWcmc, and we count down to when we hit play so that you can sync it up (it comes at around the 57 second mark of the podcast). We had a lot of fun watching this game, and we hope that you do to! Thank you for listening to Filibuster! Smolder the cactus

In this episode we continue our trip down memory lane, but we bring on some old friends to do it with us. Jason, Adam, and Ben welcome back Sebi Salazar and Greg Roche for a sort of Capital Soccer Show reunion, and the topics are only loosely followed. We talk about our favorite D.C. United jerseys and our favorite (not best) D.C. United centerbacks, but also touch on water gun fights, how people became fans, and smoldering cacti. Give it a listen!

Go Warthogs?

This week on Filibuster, Jason, Adam, and Ben kick off the show by sharing their stories about how they each went from someone who watched D.C. United games into dedicated fans of the team. For each of us, it was a specific moment or game, and you can share your moments in yesterday’s Freedom Kicks.

In the second segment, we’re starting a new series where we talk about our favorite player at each position on the team, based on whatever metric we like. Note, this is not necessarily the best player, just our favorite. We start this week with goalkeeper, and we all caveat that Bill Hamid is our favorite (and the best), before moving onto a bunch of other names. We also take a long diversion into mid-1990s indoor soccer teams. Give it a listen!

Interview with Ben Olsen

Even though it is a few days later than normal, this is a Filibuster you won’t want to miss! Jason and Ben press on without Adam, and we welcome none other than D.C. United head coach Ben Olsen to the podcast! We talk about how he is dealing in these strange times, how the team is operating right now, and what it all means for the rest of this MLS season, whenever it comes back. Plus, we ask him about stories from the early days of MLS; give it a listen!

Soccer, what a concept

Even though there are no games about which to talk, Filibuster is going to try and keep podcasting for as long as possible. It may get weird (it will get weird), but we’ll try and include as much soccer content as we can on each episode. What will that exactly mean? Who knows, but if you have suggestions for things you want to hear us talk about, let us know!

In this episode, Jason, Adam, and Ben talk about the continued fallout from COVID-19 on the soccer world, as well as answer some of your questions in the Twitterbox. Stay safe out there, friends.

D.C. United versus FC Cincinnati preview with Laurel Pfahler

For our second episode this week, Filibuster welcomes Laurel Pfahler of The Athletic back to the show to preview all things FC Cincinnati. We discuss the departure of Ron Jans, the team's performance in the first two games, and whether or not their upgraded attack is enough to compensate for the way their defense has played so far. Give it a listen!

I am generally just sitting down

D.C. United get their first win of the season in a buckwild game against Inter Miami, and Filibuster is here to puzzle through it with you. Jason, Adam, and Ben talk about the 5 minutes of chaos in the second half, the horrible opening 20 minutes, and the injuries and substitutes that occured along the way. We also get happy about Oniel Fisher before talking about the first effects of COVID-19 on the soccer world.
