Making up nonsense theories

Another day, another Filibuster for your listenin…

Another day, another Filibuster for your listening pleasure. Jason, Adam, and Ben are back to talk about D.C. United versus the New England Revolution and we start be spending too much time on how obvious the red cards were. We then move onto what bothered us most about that game, the (lone?) standout play of Facundo Coria, our annoyance at the goal celebration, and Ben Olsen's subs and the positional battles they foretell. We then talk about tonight's game against the Portland Timbers. We talk about Portland missing Diego Valeri, and how the Timbers will play in this game. Finally, we move onto the weekend game against the Philadelphia Union. We have a meetup before that game that you should come to! We ask how United can avoid another disappointment against the Union, while also discussing some NEW silliness with their goalkeeping situation. Give it a listen!

The international date line is a legitimate thing

And now here comes the 131st edition of Filibuste…

And now here comes the 131st edition of Filibuster to please your ears on this fine Wednesday. Adam, Jason, and Ben look back at the week that was, and start off by talking about how slow D.C. United looked against the Philadelphia Union and asking whether or not they should just burn the tape of the game and move on. We also talk about the right side of D.C. United's attack, Chris Rolfe and Miguel Aguilar, and Ben Olsen's substitutions in each game. We end the look-back by talking about filling out the various positions with the further injuries the team has, with a special focus on Davy Arnaud. We then talk about the upcoming game against Matt Reis' New England Revolution. We are happy for Charlie Davies even though he isn't here anymore, we talk about the Revs pressing and attack, and we break down how you can get three points against them. Finally, we crack open the Twitterbox and answer your questions! We mention our meetup that is happening in a week and a half, talk about Luis Silva's injury, and discuss which starters could be pushed to the bench when everyone is healthy. Give it a listen!

D.C. United have three matches in eight days, so there is plenty to talk about on the newest episode of Filibuster! Adam, Jason, and Ben start off by talking about D.C. United's 1-1 draw against Sporting Kansas City and how it is disappointing to drop points at home, even against good teams. We then talk about Michael Farfan and Nick DeLeon, Chris Korb and Taylor Kemp, Luis Silva, and the massive amount of squad rotation and competition that is going to take hold in May. We then talk about United's midweek game against Orlando City and try and diagnose why the Lions aren't scoring any goals. We also talk about their young Canadian starlet, Cyle Larin, their gameplan and how to stop it, and then talk about current Lion and former Union player Amobi Okugo. Speaking of the Philadelphia Union, they are a bad soccer team right now. We talk about whether or not we see Jim Curtin or Nick Sakiewicz getting fired this year, their 345 goalkeepers this season, and how to best extract three points from them this Sunday. Give it a listen!

We can try with our minds

Another Tuesday means another great episode from your friends at Filibuster! Ben, Adam, and Jason talk about D.C. United's 2-0 win over Columbus Crew SC and ask whether or not this is the way that Bennyball is supposed to work? We break down Crew Sc's tactics in this game, the Chris Rolfe and Fabian Espindola goal, the squad rotation that will be necessary throughout May and June, and Sean Franklin's set piece goal. After disposing of the Crew, we have to talk about Bill Hamid's extension and what it means for D.C. United. Finally, we talk about this weekend's game against Sporting Kansas City and have to start with whatever is going on with Benny Feilhaber's hair. We then move into more on-the-field matters, asking what is the story with the Sporks this year and what United should do against them to take advantage. We end by talking about Dom Dwyer and what United should do to gameplan the Sporks. Give it a listen! And finally, we're having a Black and Red United meetup on May 30. You can find all the details at https://www.facebook.com/events/950257298340362/ . Come join us!

It is a Wednesday Filibuster this week, so strap in and get ready. Jason, Adam, and Ben open the show with a visit to Mandyville before launching into D.C. United's 2-1 victory over the Vancouver Whitecaps. We discuss the team's overall performance, the return of Fabian Espindola, D.C. United's formation options going forward, the success of the team and their popular perception around the league, and the coming logjam in midfield. We then preview the upcoming match against the Columbus Crew and start with their overall performance this season, which may not be as impressive as everyone is making it out to be. We then dive into their style of play this year versus last, teams getting into the heads of other teams, whether or not Gregg Berhalter is a supervillain, and what formation United should play. We end the show by breaking open the Twitterbox to talk about D.C. United's 745 games coming up in May. Give it a listen!

Fall at the ground and miss

It is Tuesday, and that means that it is Filibust…

It is Tuesday, and that means that it is Filibuster time! Jason, Ben, and Adam review D.C. United's tie against the Houston Dynamo and wonder if giving up leads is becoming a trend and whether or not we need to worry about it. We then ask whether or not Houston actually outplayed United like the mainstream media says they did, the lack of confidence shown by D.C. United's forwards, and the team's overall play. We then break down Ricardo Clark's goal and pass around some blame, before talking about the context of D.C. United's 11 points thus far this season. We then bring on Jon Szerkes of 86 Forever, SB Nation's Vancouver Whitecaps blog, to talk about United's trip to the Pacific Northwest. We ask what has changed since their opening loss to Toronto FC, their most recent game against Real Salt Lake, and their current formation. We then get into VWFC's shaky defense as a whole and Jordan Harvey and Sam Adekube in particular, Matias Laba and his importance to the team, and end by asking how United should gameplan Vancouver. Give it a listen!

No apparent reason and no long-term plan

Another Tuesday means another Filibuster, and all…

Another Tuesday means another Filibuster, and all is right with the world. Adam, Jason, and Ben start by talking about D.C. United's 2-2 draw against the New York Red Bulls. We talk about Perry Kitchen's overall performance, what he and Davy Arnaud did differently in this game versus the game in Red Bull Arena, the two set piece goals that United gave up late, Kori Opare's role in those goals specifically, and we look at the differences between New York and United's set piece strategy. We then talk about United's upcoming match against the Houston Dynamo, talk about the strange season that they have had so far, what effect Owen Coyle has had on the team, and their most recent win against the Montreal Impact. Finally, we open the Twitterbox and answer your questions about Miguel Aguilar and what Jairo Arrieta's role will be when Fabian Espindola comes back. Give it a listen!

OCSC, how much do we love bill hamid, keeping him around on a dp contract, nick deleon and michael farfan, bill hamid save of the week NYRB-DCU, who saw this coming, BWP, what does dcu need to do to be better, what is bennyball, in depth on bennyball, what does DCU need to do to be better in this game Filibuster rides again into your ears to give you all the news you need about D.C. United, soccer, and rice poofs. We start out by talking about the game against Orlando City Soccer Club, including writing a love letter to Bill Hamid, giving Bill Hamid a designated player contract, Nick DeLeon and Michael Farfan, and how Hamid is up for save of the week and you should vote for him (even you, Toronto fans!). We then talk about this weekend's game between New York Red Bulls and D.C. United, and start off by asking who saw United and the Metros being the two best teams in the Eastern conference by this point in the season. We also talk about Bradley Wright-Phillips and what D.C. United needs to do to be better in this game than the previous one against New York. However, in the middle of all of this NYRB talk, we take a long look into what Bennyball actually is and what its defining characteristics are. Give it a listen!

You have to educate yourselves about soccer, you dumb Americans

Despite a computer eating last week's episode, we…

Despite a computer eating last week's episode, we cannot be held back. The Filibuster crew is back, though we have sent Adam to Belgium to secure Andy Najar's return. Jason, Ben, and Ryan start off by talking about D.C. United's win over the LA Galaxy, and tallk about how Taylor Kemp and Kofi Opare impressed us. We also ask whether or not United's defensive "bend but don't break" strategy is sustainable, and whether or not their reliance on big plays early in the season is worrying or heartening. We then briefly mention the USMNT game that is most likely happening before you listen to this, and talk about what we want to see out of this game versus what we expect to see out of this game. We aren't very encouraged, so prove us wrong, Jurgen! Finally, we bring on Michael Citro from The Mane Land to talk about United's first ever game against Orlando City SC. We talk about their injuries and how that has forced thm into a formation change, what its like to have a designated player like Kaka, why did Pedro Ribeiro have a shirt with no numbers, Adrian Heath, Sean St. Ledger, Donovan Ricketts, and, of course, LEWIS NEAL. Give it a listen!

Drams and tinctures

The Filibuster crew is back yet again, and withou…

The Filibuster crew is back yet again, and without a D.C. United game this weekend we talk about other news surrounding United and soccer in America. We talk about the labor peace agreement signed between the team and UNITE HERE Local 25, and what that might tell us about the stadium progress overall. We talk about Dave Kasper's extension and title enhancement, including dicussing a possible conspiracy theory about the title. We then talk about the USWNT's win in the Algarve Cup and the upcoming Gold Cup for the USMNT. Finally, we briefly talk about the four players that United might send down to the Richmond Kickers (but Ben misses an obvious one). We then bring on Jason Iapicco from Once A Metro and the Red Bull Rant to preview this weekend's game against the New York/New Jersey MetroStars. We ask him what is going on with this brand new team, the revamped midfield with Sascha Kljestan and Felipe, the two new center backs, and the left wing situation and whether Jesse Marsch will change formation. We then have to talk about Red Bull as owners and the Mike Petke situation, and we end by asking how the Red Bulls will play against United and how United should play against them. Give it a listen!
