A hair commercial come to life

A new Filibuster is ready to be heard by you! No, we don't record the whole episode in the passive voice, but we sure do try. Ben, Adam, Jason, and Leanne are back to talk about the two most recent D.C. United games, both of which were wins. We take the second leg against LD Alajuelense and the first game against the Montreal Impact together, and talk about the performances of Jairo Arrieta and Chris Ponitus, the play of Chris Korb, how we will kinda like Conor Doyle (especially at his age and price point), and about how dirty Miguel Aguilar is. We then talk about the United States women's national team and their current performance in the Algarve Cup in Portugal. We talk about what the heck Jill Ellis is doing, whether Ellis or Jurgen Klinsmann are a more baffling coach, and whether or not this summer's World Cup will be rough for the US women. We then dip into the Twitterbox and take two player comparison questions. We answer whether Nick DeLeon will be replaced by Miguel Aguilar, and when Markus Halsti will come and take Davy Arnaud's spot. We end the show talking about hair, headbands, mullets, and more, so you know it's a good show. GIve it a listen!

It's the tourism police

The Filibuster gang is still sad about Thursday night, but we're here for you. Adam, Ben, Jason, and Donald talk about what the hell happened in D.C. United's Concacaf Champions League game against LD Alajuelense, including dissecting the play of Andrew Dykstra, Steve Birnbaum and Bobby Boswell, and Davy Arnaud and Perry Kitchen. We also talk about the scheduling of the game and theorize if there would be any way to move it even a little later. Donald then regales us with the epic story of his cab ride during his layover leaving Costa Rica. If nothing else, please listen to this story: it involves the tourism police! We then turn back to soccer and talk about the second leg of the CCL quarterfinals, and ask if D.C. United can climb the mountain before them both offensively and defensively. We also discuss whether or not any of the likes of Jairo Arrieta, Miguel Aguilar, or Michael Farfan should start this game. In the third segment, we preview D.C. United's opening weekend match against the Montreal Impact, because we are optimists. We look at their first CCL game, whether they can translate that success into MLS, and whether or not the CCL will affect either team's performance on Saturday. Finally, in a rarely seen fourth segment, we have to talk about the collective bargaining between MLS and its players' union. We talk about how there may or may not have been some progress in negotiations, give our predictions as to whether the season will start on time, and beat the drum for the University of California solution to the problem. It is a jam-packed episode, so give it a listen!

Ben ate the intro to this episode, so it is an in media res version of Filibuster! Adam, Jason, and Ben welcome on Matt Doyle from MLSsoccer.com to talk about all things Eastern Conference as we get closer and closer to the season. We talk about whether the New England Revolution can repeat their amazing run from last year, New York, what Orlando City will do, talk about D.C. United's new residency academy, and so much more. In the second segment we actually introduce the show, talk about the disappointment that was D.C. United versus FC Dallas, and then preview the upcoming match against LD Alajualense in the Concacaf Champions League. Real soccer coming your way this Friday! Give it a listen!

There's books and other things to do

Welcome to the all-musical episode of Filibuster, where we sing you the entire week's news about D.C. United! That's not actually true, but hope that you can make it through the very bad singing at the beginning because we do eventually talk about the ATX Pro Challenge, the most awesome of armadillo sheriff trophies, D.C. United's defense, the return of Bill Hamid (already in fine form), Miguel Aguilar and the right midfield in general, and the style of play that D.C. United took in these two games. We then move into roster updates, and talk about D.C. United releasing Dan Metzger and Andrew Driver as well as the new trialists coming in to try and get the third goalkeeper spot. Finally, we talk about the new interpretations of rules that the Professional Referee Organization will be implementing, including the offside rule and persistent infringement. We also through in some talk of what possible rule change we would like to see to make teams and leagues take concussions more seriously. Give it a listen!

Despite some technical difficulties that eventually cost us Jason, the Filibuster crew is dedicated to its craft. We start off by talking about D.C. United's preseason losses and whether or not we should be worried by them. We then talk about the positioning of Chris Pontius and whether he is going to feature more as a forward or as a winger, how Markus Halsti has looked so far, and players such as Bill Hamid and Luis Silva returning from injuries. We finish up the first segment talking about trialists who have come and gone and then talk about D.C. United's acquisition of Michael Farfan. We then talk about D.C. United's new secondary jersey and the different crest that is upon it. We end the podcast by talking about the collective bargaining agreement and whether or not we think there will eventually be a strike over the issue of free agency. Give it a listen!

Despite being out on vacation, my dedication to bringing you this podcast knows no bounds. This week, Jason, Adam, and Leanne are back to talk about the beginning of D.C. United's preseason. They start by talking about D.C. United's first preseason game, against Orlando City SC. REAL SOCCER! They talk about Chris Pontius' goal, Diego Restrepo's howler, and the players that have been both cut and added to the roster after that game. The team then moves on to talk about Jurgen Klinsmann, the USMNT, and their game against Chile. While talking about Steve Birnbaum, they also talk about the 3-5-2 as a whole, Jermaine Jones, and the madness that is Klinsmann's mind right now. Finally, they bust open the Twitterbox to hear what all of our listeners have to say. Give it a listen!

Adam is back from his scouting trip to Alaska, and Filibuster is back in your ears. We start off by talking all things D.C. United preseason trialists: Andrew Driver and David Estrada, Rocket Rod Dyachenko, the center backs (Futty Danso, Rauwshawn McKenzie, and Sean St Ledger), and the goalkeeping trialists that are Diego Restrepo, Richard McCallum, and Riccardo Anedda. We then talk about injuries suffered this season (Eddie Johnson and Michael Seaton) and at the end of last season (Luis Silva, Chris Rolfe, Andrew Dykstra, and Conor Doyle). It could be an interesting forward pairing to start the year if these players don't start getting health (but most of them are doing so). When then talk about Perry Kitchen, Steve Birnbaum, and the USMNT's Camp Cupcake. They play Chile tonight, and they may do so in a strange formation. Is Jurgen Klinsmann actually just Tom Soehn? Finally, we introduce a new segment entitled "Metro Offseason Failure" before taking some of your Twitterbox questions. Give it a listen!

Tony Montana, but with old bay

The SuperDraft is over, and your SuperFilibuster …

The SuperDraft is over, and your SuperFilibuster crew are here to tell you all about it. Adam is on assignment on a frozen tundra somewhere, so Jason and Ben are joined by Ryan and Leanne about all things D.C. United. We start off by talking about D.C. United's two picks in the MLS SuperDraft, starting with first round pick Miguel Aguilar. We talk about the fact that he uses an international roster spot, what we expect from him, and whether or not we thing he will make the team given the current uncertainty around roster sizes due to the CBA. We then move on to talk about second-round pick Dan Metzger, the fact that he already has an MLS contract, his homegrown player status with NYRB, and whether there is room on the team for both him and Jared Jeffrey. We then move on to talk about D.C. United's trade with Orlando City SC for forward Jairo Arrieta. What talk about his abrasiveness. what we expect from him this season, and where he fits in with this team. We then talk D.C. United jersey leaks and speculate wildly based on two extremely small pieces of fabric. We end by going around the league, but mostly talking about Toronto FC and the Colorado Rapids. Give it a listen!

Allsvensken!

It is MLS SuperDraft week, and that means that it is time for our yearly chat with Top Drawer Soccer's Travis Clark, the expert on all things college soccer. We talk about Cyle Larin, Cristian Roldan, and the other top players in the draft, the depth (or lack thereof) of talent in this draft, and the various goalkeepers in the draft (and where D.C. United should take them). We then ask Travis about picking for need versus picking the best available player, the Generation Adidas class this year, prospects from around greater DMV area, the effect of USL PRO, and whether or not there are any D.C. United Academy players who might sign soon. After we bid farewell to Travis, we turn our attention to D.C. United news. We talk about SB Nation's mock SuperDraft, the signing of Markus Halsti, how Halsti will fit in with Perry Kitchen and Davy Arnaud, the callup of Steve Birnbaum and Perry Kitchen to the USMNT, the Concacaf Champions League, and United's coaching changes. It is a jam-packed show, so give it a listen! Note: There is some joking about the Metro in this podcast, before we knew the full seriousness of the tragedy. We apologize for the tastelessness of the joke.

It was just really hot gin

After a week off for the holidays, the Filibuster crew is rested and ready to take on 2015! We start by walking our way through the Hate Index, which measures the teams that are least hated and most hated by D.C. United fans. You won't believe the two teams that top the list! (Yes, you will) We then answer some of your twitterbox questions about Luis Silva and his national team prospects and whether or not United should give Bill Hamid a designated player contract. Give it a listen!
