D.C. United pulled out the three points they desperately needed on Sunday, and Filibuster is here to talk about it and about their upcoming game against FC Dallas. Adam, Jason, and Ben ask whether or not United were the better team on the balance before getting into Wayne Rooney’s first goal of the game, the one that was called back. We talk about right back and what it means to have Paul Arriola in that role, as well as center back and the best fits for the way the team is currently playing. We end by praising Junior Moreno, both for drawing the penalty and for his play overall recently. In the second segment we dive into their upcoming game against Western Conference leading FC Dallas. We talk about how they’ve been playing and Max Urruti’s role in that. We break down their back line, their midfield, and try and figure out what Oscar Pareja wants to do with this team and how D.C. United can beat them. Give it a listen!

Everything’s good after a win, and everything is …

Everything’s good after a win, and everything is even better after a 5-0 destruction of your closest playoff rival. Jason, Ben, and Adam are back to talk about D.C. United’s domination of the Montreal Impact, and we start with how all of D.C. United’s biggest name players showed up on Saturday and made that game their own. We also break down how close the team was to a funhouse mirror version of this game, Ben Olsen’s changing tactics throughout the game, and who we would want to replace Oniel Fisher if he can’t continue. We end by singing Luciano Acosta’s praises and talking about the national team prospect’s of the members of this team. In the second segment we welcome on James Bridget Gordon, managing editor of our sister site, Hot Time in Old Town. We start by asking them about Djordie Mihailovic and the tactics on the field before going big picture and asking whether or not its even fun to by a Chicago Fire fan these days. We also ask them about the mid-season changes, Bastian Schweinsteiger, and get them to gameplan the reeling Fire for us. Give it a listen!

It is the end of the week, but don’t worry; your friends at Filibuster didn’t forget you. We are here to talk about D.C. United’s bizarre 3-3 draw against the New York Red Bulls, starting with Bradley Wright-Phillips’ hat trick display. We get into Wayne Rooney’s amazing goal, discuss Bill Hamid’s performance, and bow at the alter of Luciano Acosta. We also break down the 3-5-2 and whether or not we liked it before discussing the best formations for this United team, which includes a discussion of the team’s current center backs and their injury problems. D.C. United got a valuable point out of New York City FC, and Filibuster is here to break it down before we all get blown away by possible Hurricanes (unless we defeat them with music). We talk about our feeling on the bunkering draw, how they prevented NYCFC from having many good chances, and how Steven Birnbaum was really really great. We also discuss the terrible performance of Kevin Stott, the lineup with so many people missing and what that means for tomorrow’s game, and check in on Chris Durkin. In the second segment we talk about both Minnesota United and the New York Red Bulls, breaking down the points that D.C. United is going to need to take from both of them. The team will have the advantage of some missing players coming back, so we also wonder how they might fit back in and what their opponents’ absences will mean for these games. Give it a listen!

D.C. United turned around their week at the end, and Filibuster is here to talk about it. Jason, Adam, and Ben talk about D.C. United’s games against the Philadelphia Union and against Atlanta United, each of which went the opposite of how we thought they would go. We talk about the rotation (or lack thereof), as well as the absolutely excellent recent play of Luciano Acosta and how much Bill Hamid has meant to the team is just his short time back. We also discuss Wayne Rooney, of course, and get into the Paul Arriola experiment at right back. In the second segment we welcome back our old fiend Raf Noboa y Rivera to talk about NYCFC and their rough patch of form. We talk about their new coach compared to Patrick Vieira and whether or not Father Time has caught up to David Villa. We also break down Anton Tinnerholm’s game, their prospects for staying at Yankee Stadium, and what the best way to gameplan them is. Give it a listen!

Finding that bird

Even though it was not the result we wanted again…

Even though it was not the result we wanted against the New York Red Bulls, D.C. United must press onwards, as must your favorite podcast. Adam, Jason, and Ben talk about the balance of play against the Red Bulls and break down the only goal of the game, including the questionable free kick that started the sequence. We discuss how, with this current team, we thought that D.C. United could actually have a chance of coming back. Finally we talk about how the subs were almost too amped up when they came in, talk some more about D.C. United’s corner kicks, and discuss what rotation might be necessary due to Yamil Asad’s injury. Tomorrow, the team is back at it again against the Philadelphia Union. We break down their midfield and whether or not their young center backs are a liability, as well as discuss the play of their forwards that has left some familiar names on the bench. Give it a listen!

D.C. United keeps the hot streak going, and Filibuster is riding that wave too. Adam, Ben, and Jason are here to talk about D.C. United’s 2-0 win over the New England Revolution, and we start the program by talking about the historic commentary crew. We then get into the game itself, talking about D.C. United’s offense and how they are able to keep the pressure up without getting many cards, especially in the case of Luciano Acosta. We also discuss how the central midfield partnership of Junior Moreno and Russell Canouse has freed the fullbacks from a lot of defensive responsibilities, the play that sprung Luciano Acosta for the first goal, and whether or not this streak means less since it has been mostly against bad teams. In the second segment we bring on evil Jason Iapicco from Red Bull Rant to talk about the New York Red Bulls. We discuss how big this rivarly is now that the Red Bulls have a local competitor, their signings in the summer window, and what Tyler Adams has meant to the team. We also discuss the amount of money paid out for Kaku and how this team fits into the global Red Bull machine, before ending the segment talking about the departure of Jesse Marsch and asking Jason to gameplan the MetroStars for us. Give it a listen!

After a wonderful second half versus the Portland Timbers, Filibuster is back with a rare second episode! Jason, Adam, and Ben talk about United’s best soccer in a long while, and focus on all the impacts Wayne Rooney has made both on his own and the effect he’s had on his teammates, We also discuss the sports science that led to less rotation than we thought we would see, as well as United’s newly unprecedented levels of swag. In the second segment we welcome on Alex Almeida from Six States, One Podcast, to talk about the New England Revolution. We discuss their season so far and the style that Brad Friedel has implemented. We ponder the lack of use of Kelyn Rowe, where the problems in their defense lie, and the physicality of the team. We end by talking about their new signings, more rumors about a possible soccer specific stadium for the Revs, and ask Alex to gameplan the Revs for us. Give it a listen!

D.C. United took on Orlando City SC, and the game…

D.C. United took on Orlando City SC, and the game was all level after 90 minutes; the last 6 minutes, however, were madness. Jason, Adam, and Ben are here to break down every aspect of Luciano Acosta’s third (!) goal and the run, tackle, and pass by Wayne Rooney that made it possible. We also discuss the burgeoning partnership between Lucho and Rooney, including Lucho’s other goals and the red card that didn’t get called, as well as what Orlando’s formation against United meant for this and future games. In the second segment we bring on William Conwell from Stumptown Footy to preview the Portland Timbers’ inaugural trip to Audi Field. We discuss their long unbeaten streak and its end as well as the team under new coach Gio Savarese. We ask William about the trade of Fanando Adi and his replacement by Samuel Armenteros, as well as the trade of Vytas to D.C. United and what that means for Zarek Valentin. Finally, we compare the performance of D.C. United’s Costa Rican players with Portland’s Costa Rican players, and ask William to gameplan the Timbers for us. Give it a listen!
